That means to you that you CAN'T do the actual recovery That includesĪll of the registry information. The recovery set will be tailored to the computer on which it is created. It is necessary to make this change to the menu before calling NAV. To run NAV using BOTH the program itself and the signature files from the floppy set, Obviously, you don't want that if they may be corrupted. If you run NAV from the recovery floppy set, it will try to use the signature filesįrom the hard drive. I haven't tried using NAV 2002 yet, but here is how it works in the 2001 version. The virus definittions on the diskettes should be updated, again in an uninfected computer. the diskettes should be formatted and created in an uninfected computer, prefarably using win98.Ģ. CDs are more common but the disadvantage is you can't get the most updated virus definitions on the CD.ġ. There are also antivirus program sold in diskettes though they are not so common nowadays. I suggest Norton Rescue disks because you said you have Norton Systemworks. You shouldn't do that, because the system files on your 2 computers may be different. I know Norton Rescue says it should not be created on another computer, but you are not going to use it to restore your system files. You should create the rescue disks on another computer. You can call the antivirus program from Rescue Disk 1 (the boot disk), and Norton Integrator will guide you to insert the relevant diskettes. The antivirus program is one of the disks and another 2 or 3 diskettes stores the virus definitions. If you are not, it's best you don't touch that program. If you are very experienced, you can try fixing your system with Diskedit, including manually removing the virus. They also come with Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Diskedit. In fact, they are more than just boot disks. Yes, the norton rescue disks come with the norton antivirus program. I ran regclean after the virus cleaning and again now, but none of the above seems to do any good. Any way to change this attibutes from within win 98? The readme however has Oct 17- 1998 as the modified date. However, when running setup from the extracted files, I get the same error! Looked at the propertys of both the readme.txt and the setup.exe and found that they both showed created when extracted (now) and the setup shows modified 2 seconds later. BIG CLUE - the dates and times are all the same!!!! zip (before you recomended it CrazyOne) and it opened and extracted. Sooo, I changed the extension on a hunch to. When trying to install a copy of winzip70.exe I got the message:ĭate/time stamp on the file README.TXT does not match the date/time stamp on SETUP.EXE Housecall said that these couldn't be cleaned and should be deleted or that they were viruses. ![]() Restored them from win98se and also found some that got deleted that wasn't in the windows cd: Ran SFC and found a few files that I deleted from a Housecall scan. Could that be corrupted the DLs maybe? Hate to turn it off now if you know what I mean. ![]() The only thing that's different on my system that worked fine even with the viruses is that I'm running Zone Alarm now. I've done scan-disks and reckecked for viruses. I've re-downloaded them several times directly as well as with Gozilla. The last one gave me this page fault (for PC-illin): I've tried three different downloaded excecutibles and each time I try to install them I get a Winzip header corrupt, or file size incorrect, etc. Just when I thought I was in good shape from all the viruses, now I can't install any anti-virus programs!
